“Restoration”

Roof Restoration is the process of making a roof once again waterproof, while reusing the existing roof tiles, thus saving time and money.

Major Steps in a Roof Restoration

The first step is to pull up the existing tiles to expose problems and to get at the old underlayment (a.k.a. "felt"), flashings, etc.

This felt has deteriorated at the edge, causing substantial dry rot of the fascia.

Debris also contributes to the erosion process.

Any tiles that are split or chipped will be replaced by new tiles.

All of the old underlayment and flashing materials are hauled away, but close to 100% of the tiles are reused. They will last for generations.

Two layers of your choice of underlayment is installed.

Here's a common original installation error: applying felt over the top valley metal. It allows water to circle back underneath.

For any areas where the plywood has deteriorated, new plywood is installed.

This roof had more tiles that were chipped or cracked than usual.

Some areas of the fascia were affected by both dry rot and termite activity.

Removal of all the old material allows for a thorough examination of the entire roof.

Double underlayment is installed everywhere, and all new metal is installed around the skylight.

The flashing around chimney was originally installed improperly.

In potential problem areas, in addition to our usual double underlayment, we also apply a modified Bituthene product well up against the sides. (This product is normally used on flat roofs to assure a good seal under possibly standing water.)

Careful attention to detail when installing flashings makes a huge difference in the longevity of a roof.

Superior waterproofing.

New detail around chimney.

New valley metal.

New metal around sky lights.

Any damaged fascia is expertly replaced and seamlessly joined to the existing fascia.

Likewise, for any areas of plywood soffit that need replacing.
